FIELD NOTES
Not everything that matters fits neatly into a field record.
These are notes from the work itself — water, mud, weather, kalo, repairs, memory, family, wildlife, things we understand, and things we are still trying to.
Some entries are observations. Some are questions. Some are things we were taught. Some are things this season is teaching us now.
March 2026 — MEMORY / WATER
THE MAPS WE CARRY
There are maps of Hakipuʻu that exist on paper. And then there are the ones carried in bodies, memory, water, and the way someone knows where to walk without needing a line drawn for them.
august 2026 — WATER / WEATHER
THE YEAR THE WATER WOULDN’T STAY WHERE IT BELONGED
This season the stream moved, the ʻauwai broke, banks gave out, mud changed, and we rebuilt more times than we expected. This is what it looked like trying to keep water moving while everything around it kept changing.
SEPTEMBER 2026 — FAMILY / KALO
WHY THERE IS A WEBSITE NOW
We have always been much more handwritten-sign, side-of-the-road, talk-story kind of people. This is about time, kuleana, continuity, and finding a way for the farm to help carry the farm without changing what the work is.
September 2026 — SOIL / WE DON’T KNOW YET
WHAT THE MUD IS TELLING US
Soil tests, wet mud, amendments, high nitrogen, bone and blood meal, and the things we are still trying to understand by watching how the plants respond.
JULY 2025 — WILDLIFE
THE ʻAEʻO FAMILY
Three displaced birds stayed together through the year. Then the son returned with a mate. This is what we saw, what changed, and what we still do not know.

FROM THE FIELD RECORD
The notes are the thinking. The record is where the measurements, lab results, harvest numbers, water conditions, and field observations live.
